Holbæk kunsthøjskole:
Works and events
During my stay at the school i was able to try different subjects. This spring courses, i picked up the following subjects:
-Silk printing accompanied with drawing
-Comic
-Painting
-Painting
Here are some of the works i did for the silk printing and drawing.
The Book is about 8 pages, the cover is of grey paperboard and the illustrations are printed by hand. It was quiet new for me to silk printing, But i enjoyed the ways that things were structured, the routine from scrap to pen drawing on clear plastic sheet to the dark room and all. Alot of preparation were to be made.
The teacher gave us an different ways in how to express by using different topic and styles such as, drawing with your left hand , draw without thinking- being spontaneous, brush strokes and expressing movements, etc
Many of the drawings i drew were drawn on A3 copy papers the bigger the paper the more comfort in drawing big and detailed work,-however, i didn't have a copy machine that could fit a size like that. So a camera was used instead. By the help of Photoshop, the pictures were then "Curved" lighter.
This one was unlucky, It was difficult to lighten as far as i could. |
Next up is my session
Comics!
we were all encouraged to try and draw abstract. During the first week the teacher took his time in looking at people´s work, some used their sketchbooks or portfolio. After he looked through my stuff, I asked him if he had some suggestions. He told me to try draw the minimalist and figurative way. And so i did : )He gave us an exercise where we had to fill a page of small boxes, mostly 6 panels and fill it up with what you see around you. This makes you, unconsciously strengthen your
compositions and not think what to draw next.
Painting Project: The Philippines
Or about the third world countries in the tropical
These ideas are taken from my experiences of my home country, the Philippines where the contrast between the rich and the poor is immense.
When i started this project, I had asked help from the family and others for suggestive ideas. I wanted something about the Tropical, that paradise"postcard look" - that dynamic flow of vivid colors. Though the idea changed drastically. I wanted to show the problems, an honest reality that even a country which is rich in their resources and cultural ways. There are still problems that can´t be ignored.
Originally, I planned to make the finished work as a 100x120cm painting, but that cause too much attention. I decided 50x50cm is more a discreet size to show big problems.
